Going Home (Uwi) explores the meaning of diaspora through my parents' immigration story and my own experience as a first generation child.

In this project, I emphasize domestic scenes and photograph my parents both at home and around our neighborhood in Queens, where my parents have lived since they immigrated to America (more or less). Queens has a rich diversity that is integral to my upbringing and my parents’ first years in America. Through this documentation, I learn to interact with my parents in a different way and discover more about their personal histories: they are not used to being photographed and rarely speak about their immigration experience and their former lives in the Philippines.

Going Home (Uwi) highlights the disconnect felt in people of all diasporas, from those who have left their home countries to those raised elsewhere from the country of their culture.
